The Studio – Home Sweet Home

A year and a half of planning and patience paid off this week.  Found an incredible studio space downtown in the Encore Building at 506 3rd St.  Here’s a sneak peek.  Over the next few weeks I’ll share the moving-in process and introduce the rest of the team.

Stephanie and Neal – 1 Year Ago

I took this picture of Stephanie and Neal about a year ago.  They will be getting married in September…finally.  Keep the faith you two.  Love ya.

Around Iowa – The Iowa State Fair Photography Salon.

The entry deadline is fast approaching for the Iowa State Fair photography competition.  Entries will be accepted Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  In addition to the regular categories, this year’s theme category is Iowa county courthouses.

Around Des Moines – Pappajohn Sculpture Garden

A sneak peak at the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden located at Western Gateway Park.

Around Des Moines – JJ and Friend

I met these two at Gray’s Lake having fun in the water.  Sorry JJ, I didn’t get your friend’s name.  *Update:  JJ’s friend is Sweet D.

My World – Living in Sherman Hill

I’ve been living in Sherman Hill for the past year.  My building was established in 1923 and was used as lodging for performers at Hoyt Sherman Place across the street.

Around Des Moines – Cool Skies and the Courthouse.

I’m thinking about entering photos in the Iowa State Fair.  One of the categories is Iowa Courthouses.  I was playing around to see if I could make the Polk County Courthouse look interesting.  Maybe a little, but not quite ready for the fair.  The sky photos were thrown in just because.

Around Des Moines – Riversports

Checked out the boating and skiing down on the river today.  I would be afraid to ski after seeing the huge pieces of driftwood floating in the water.

Around Des Moines – Ingersoll Avenue

A few sights along Ingersoll Avenue.  Hey…is this uptown?

Around Des Moines – Night Bike Ride

Sometimes in the summer, I like to ride at night.  No hot sun beating down on you.  Cool evening breeze.  The city looks and sounds different at night.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day commemorates those U.S. men and women who died while in military service.  Honor them and their families.

Around Des Moines – Roosevelt High School

For the most part, I grew up in Mason City Iowa but I did attend Roosevelt High School my sophomore year.  While I was taking pictures today I ran into one of the music teachers who explained all of the construction going on around campus.  The school is building a new band wing, replacing windows, and installing a geothermal system.

Around Des Moines – CCCofA Riverfront Gardens

The Chinese Cultural Center of America Riverfront Gardens were built to acknowledge the significant contribution Asian Americans have made to Iowa.  Does anyone know what the symbols on the boulders mean?  I do.
